Stella Maris College has a reputation for the excellent care of our students.
Every staff member at Stella Maris College plays a role in nurturing students' holistic development, aiming for well-rounded, resilient individuals with self-confidence, purpose, and community bonds.
Every student has key staff members who will support her for the duration of her time at Stella. Her Pastoral Care teacher(s) and her Head of Year stay with her from Year 7 to Year 12. They develop exceptional relationships with students in their care and are a key resource for parents and carers. The counselling team comprises a Registered Psychologist and two Counsellors, who are available to all students.
We prioritise the wellbeing of our students, ensuring they are supported in all aspects of their lives to achieve their full potential. A comprehensive Wellbeing Program is designed to foster personal growth, resilience, and a sense of community among students.
At the heart of the College’s vision and mission is the importance of knowing each student through relationships that are built on trust, respect, and genuine care. By prioritising such connection, we create environments where students feel valued and understood, forming the foundation for both academic success and personal growth. Through the principles of positive education, Stella Maris College empowers its students to develop resilience, optimism, and a sense of purpose. Positive education focuses on nurturing an active learner, who feels seen and valued, and has an appreciation for their role in driving their own achievement.
Complementing this approach is the focus on restorative justice, which emphasises repairing relationships and promoting accountability. Such an approach purposefully creates opportunities for students to reflect on their actions, understand their impact, and work collaboratively to rebuild trust. Positive education and restorative justice, together strengthen the relational fabric of the College community, ensuring that every student feels heard and supported.
Our Wellbeing Program is structured around key developmental stages, each with tailored themes that address the unique needs of our students as they progress through their school years. These themes include:
Each theme provides opportunities for students to reflect on their strengths and challenges, explore new ways of thinking, and develop behaviours that support their goals.
We understand the importance of a supportive environment in achieving academic and personal success. Our school offers various resources and initiatives to ensure every student receives the care and guidance they need:
The success of our wellbeing initiatives is evident in the positive impact on our school community. Our programs not only help students thrive academically but also build a strong sense of belonging and mutual support. Events such as assemblies, themed days (RUOK? Day, Harmony Day), interactive activities, and participation in clubs and groups (school handball competitions, Fun Fridays) cultivate connectedness and promote mental wellbeing.
Our commitment to student wellbeing is a testament to our holistic approach to education, ensuring that our students are not only academically prepared but also equipped with the skills and support necessary for a fulfilling and balanced life.
The program of retreats, reflection days and camps provides our girls with the opportunity to explore issues, challenge themselves and develop deeper connections with their peers, teachers and to their faith – in different environments, and away from technology. Camps and retreats are a key component of the Pastoral Care program and an essential part of the girls’ holistic development.
