Do I need a visa?

Students who wish to apply as a full fee paying student need a '​student visa' to study in Australia. You can apply for a student visa at an Australian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission. Some students will be able to apply online through the Department of Home Affairs​ website.​

Can I study for only one term?

Yes, we offer a Study Abroad Program that allows students to study at our school for one term or up to four terms. Please contact international@stellamaris.nsw.edu.au to find out more.

What is a homestay?

An approved homestay is when you live with a local family. You will be considered a member of the family for the duration of your stay and will often b​e in a home with other children. Homestay provides you with the best possible way to experience Australian culture and to improve your English. Homestay families are carefully selected by our staff members and most have been hosting international students for many years.

What is the cost for homestay and what is included?

Homestay costs between $420 - $440 per week depending on the location and the house. The cost of the homestay covers:

  • two meals (breakfast and dinner) Monday to Friday, three meals on the weekends
  • facilities – a bed, wardrobe, towels and linen
  • all gas, heating, electricity, cooling and water costs
  • cleaning of common living areas
  • use of all shared areas in homestay
  • study facilities – desk, lamp and bookcase
Can I work when I am studying?

International students holding a visa subclass 500 Student - Schools (or visa subclass 571) are permitted to work up to 48 hours per fortnight as long as the work does not interfere with their studies or attendance. During holidays students are permitted to work full-time. Students who wish to work should discuss this with their parents and the International Student Wellbeing Coordinator before committing to the work.

What is ESOS Framework?

International education in Australia is controlled by a number of Acts of Parliament and associated regulations at both the Federal and the State Government level.

The ESOS Act is the primary Australian legislation regulating international education.

The ESOS Act regulates:
• The Registration process and obligations of registered institutions or providers
• The Tuition Protection Service protecting students
• And the enforcement and compliance powers of the government bodies.

Do I need medical insurance?

Yes, all holders of Student Visas to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) during the time they are studying in Australia.

Overseas student must obtain health insurance cover with a private health insurance company. 

There are only a few registered health insurers that offer OSHC. You can compare plans and prices by visiting the following websites:
