Our Homestay program is an important part of the College’s International department. The program connects quality and caring homestay families to our overseas students who travel without their parents to study in Australia. International students are normally aged between 14-17 years old and will pursue a study plan for at least three years at Stella Maris College.
Our overseas Stella students and their parents value our Homestay program and highly recommend it as an integral part of any student's Australian experience. Living with an Australian family allows students to learn a new culture, try new cuisine, improve their English and gain life-long friends.
The College’s International department carefully selects homestay families. We meet with any potential host to ensure the home is suitable and Working with Children Checks can be obtained. After registration, families are provided with detailed information, guidelines and ongoing support to ensure good relationships are established and maintained with students in their care.
Information For Host FamiliesStudents choose to stay with a host family for the home comforts and family atmosphere. They learn about Australian family life and participate in activities with their host family, which enriches their cultural experience.
Staying with a host family also provides an excellent opportunity to improve students' English in a supportive environment. Students find the Homestay experience the simplest, most beneficial and enjoyable for them.
Our students often study for an extended period, typically two to three years, before entering a university in Australia. Staying with a host family offers them valuable local knowledge and connections, which can greatly enhance their study goals.
