Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday

Following our observance of Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, our community at Stella Maris College is invited into the sacred season of Lent — a time of reflection, renewal, and preparation for Easter. Shrove Tuesday calls us to reconciliation and fresh beginnings, echoing the compassionate mission of the Good Samaritan Sisters, whose charism invites us to respond to the needs of others with mercy and practical love. On Ash Wednesday, as we receive ashes and hear the call to “turn back to God,” we are reminded of our Benedictine heritage — a spirituality grounded in prayer, hospitality, humility, and stewardship. Inspired by the wisdom of St Benedict, we embrace this Lenten season as a time to listen deeply to God’s word and to one another.

As Scripture encourages us, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10).

Prayer:
Loving God, as we begin this Lenten journey, help us to live the Good Samaritan charism through compassion and service, and to walk the Benedictine path with prayerful hearts and generous hospitality. Bless our Stella Maris community, and renew us in faith, hope, and love.

St Benedict, pray for us.
Mary Star of the Sea, pray for us.
And let us always remember, to pray for one another.

Shrove Tuesday Pikelet Stall

Our Shrove Tuesday Pikelet Stall was a huge success! A heartfelt thank you to our Stella Sister crew, Senior Prefects, and the many students from Years 8–12 who stepped up and generously offered their time. Their energy and teamwork created a truly festive atmosphere and reminded us of the rewarding sense of joy that comes from community service. An incredible 1,604 pikelets were cooked and served.

Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion

As we journey through Lent, our Pastoral Care classes are once again supporting Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion right up until Easter.

At our Ash Wednesday Liturgy, Social Justice Prefect Zara D reminded us that “Project Compassion invites us not just to give things up, but to give of ourselves.” She spoke powerfully about looking beyond our own comfort and recognising that what unsettles us may be the daily reality for others. Through this campaign, we are called to respond with generosity, empathy and justice and to keep at the top of mind that access to education, healthcare, clean water and opportunity are not privileges, but basic human rights.

This year, fundraising will take place within PC Classes as a whole year group effort. Donations can be made via the QR code (link provided below), as well as through the traditional donation boxes with your PC Teacher or at Student Reception using coins or cash.

Thank you to our community for continuing to live out compassion in action this Lent.
