Each year the College focuses on one of our core Benedictine values. This year is our Year of Community. Community is about our relationships with each other and ensuring there is a place for everyone.
At Stella we believe if students and staff feel part of the school, they feel able to share their gifts with others. It could be they are super-sporty or academic, love dance or have a great ability to connect to their peers. We value all these gifts because they make the members of our community unique and help bring the students and staff of the school together.
Parents and carers can assist with building community at Stella by supporting the relationship building that their daughters have with the staff. Trust that staff want to help your daughter thrive and encourage them to connect and contribute. They may suggest additional support such as after school study or Stellamatics. Be positive about these suggestions and help your daughter flourish at school. The start of the year offers the girls an opportunity to cultivate strong bonds with teachers and support staff.
"We need to value the relationships and the way kids feel at school, even more than how they do at school. All kids are capable of their own versions of greatness, but unless they feel safe and cared for at school, we just won’t see what they are capable of, and neither will they.
Teachers are superheroes. The ones who value the need for relational safety, and who do what they can to build in practices or micromoments to build relationship change lives. They really do." (Karen Young – How to Build Relational Safety at School, www.heysigmund.com)
Let’s all work together in the Year of Community to build a great school in which our students will continue to thrive.

It was wonderful to spend time with Year 12 at their retreat at The Collaroy Centre. Thank you to Ms Chin, Ms Mezger and the PC teachers for their support of the girls. I know the time out to reflect on their journey is one that is valued by our seniors.
Loving God
Let us learn to love our neighbours more deeply,
so that we can create peaceful and just communities.
May Jesus provide us the example needed
and send the Spirit to strengthen our hearts for the journey.
Amen
