Stella Term 1 Sport Update

Sport is well and truly back up and running again at Stella. It has been a busy start to the year in sport, with more than 600 sport registrations across the variety of sports on offer this term! This includes 18 touch teams, 11 basketball teams, four AFL teams, four water polo teams and three tennis teams. It is great to see so many students participating in the different sports, and having a great time with their friends!

Sporting Success

We have had a large number of our students achieving excellent results across lots of different sports over the recent weeks. Stella is very proud of our sporting stars who train hard throughout the year to achieve great things in their sports!

Futsal

In the holidays, several Stella students represented NSW at the National Futsal Championships. The NSW teams won gold and silver medals across the different age groups. Special mention to Charlotte C who was named as the goal keeper of the tournament in her division. Well done to Camille C, Gracie B, Sabine C and Charlotte C on playing at this high level!

Congratulations also to Ann M, Zoe B, Maisie S, Florrie V and Annabel H who represented NSW Northern Beaches at the Australian Futsal Association Nationals in January. Ann was named MVP and awarded a place in the Australian All Stars team. Ann, Zoe, Maisie, Florrie and Annabel have all been invited to play for Australia in Brazil later this year! Well done!

Hockey

Congratulations to Isla S, Hannah L and Rileigh S who all represented NSW in hockey over the holidays.

In indoor hockey, Isla S (Year 9) played for the NSW U14 girls state team, who won the silver medal in a very close grand final. Hannah L (Year 9) played for the NSW U14 girls blues team, finishing in 5th place. Hannah was listed as one of the championship's top goal scorers. Rileigh S (Year 12) captained the NSW U16 girls blues team who won the bronze medal!

In other hockey news, Isla S and Hannah L have been selected to represent NSW at the Under 16 Australian Field Hockey Championships to take place in Tasmania in April. This is a fantastic achievement especially since both girls are bottom aged and will have another year in the U16 age group. Well done girls!

    Surf Lifesaving

Stella is proud to have many students competing at the State Nippers Carnival in Swansea this weekend. We have had many outstanding achievements amongst our students at the recent Branch Championships, including Piper B, who won nine medals, Flo W who won five medals, as well as Eve S, Addison B, Zaylee Z, and Alice W who also had excellent results in the top few placings!

      Sailing

During the holidays, Alana H (Year 9) competed in the Flying 11 National Championships in Lake Macquarie. This was Alana’s first nationals in this class of boat and she has only been skippering the boat for three months prior to the event. They sailed well throughout the five day regatta in tough and often windy conditions, including dealing with a collision on the 4th day of racing that resulted in damage to their boat with calmness and great sportsmanship. Well done to Alana on finishing in 25th place overall in a very competitive fleet.
