A busy term for Social Justice...

Gift Cook: Serving Up Soup and Solidarity

Last Thursday evening, our students took part in Gift Cook, whipping up hearty minestrone soup in record time. With the Thermomix helping to conquer the teariest job (onions!), students from Years 9 to 11 worked side by side, showing teamwork and care. These nutritious meals are more than just soup; they’re a way for our young people to give back to the community and support those facing challenges in the current cost-of-living crisis.

A big thank you to Yi (Amanda) L, Ivy P, Sophie O’B, Eleni H, Grace H, Natasha C, Chloe S, Sacha C and Cody R.

We have one last Gift Cook this term, Thursday 27 September. If you would like to be a part of this important community service work, please email Ms Metcalfe.

Your effort can count towards your Duke of Edinburgh community service hours or simply be a chance to put social justice into action, knowing the results will be going directly to people in our community who will benefit.

    My First Speech Competition

✨ Be the Change. Speak for Justice. ✨

At Stella, we believe in using our voices for the common good. If you are passionate about an issue in our world today such as:

    • climate justice, renewable energy, fair access to water,
    • housing and cost-of-living equity,
    • peace and conflict resolution, or
    • Reconciliation with our First Nations people,

This is your chance to step up.

The My First Speech competition invites students in Years 10–12 to imagine themselves as a newly elected Member of Parliament and deliver their first 90-second speech on the issue that matters most to them.

This is more than just a speech

    It’s a platform for justice.

Winners will be flown to Canberra to:

    • Deliver their speech in Parliament House
    • Meet MPs and attend Question Time
    • Share their vision for a fairer, more compassionate world

By taking part, you are not only developing your voice but also carrying forward our tradition of justice, compassion and courage, values at the heart of Good Samaritan education.

👉 Entries close 15 September 2025. Find out more by contacting Ms Metcalfe to follow the next steps to enter the competition.
