A New Era of Creative Learning at Stella Maris College

On 29 July, Stella Maris College marked a proud and historic moment in our College’s journey with the official opening and blessing of The Polding Centre, our brand-new, purpose-built facility dedicated to Visual Arts, Design and Technology, and Textiles Technology.

The day began with a beautiful Mass led by Bishop Anthony Randazzo DD JCL, joined by local clergy, the Good Samaritan Sisters, alumnae, College guests, building partners, and the entire Stella community. Following the Mass, Bishop Randazzo blessed each classroom, a meaningful gesture symbolising guidance, inspiration, and protection for all who will learn and teach within its walls.

A special highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of the building’s commemorative plaque by Mrs Margaret Duffy, our oldest living alumna at 98 years young. Her presence and warm gestures deeply moved all who attended.

The celebration was made even more memorable by the Stella Choir, whose powerful performances added a spirit of joy and reverence to the occasion.

A Space Designed for Creative Growth

The Polding Centre represents our commitment to creating contemporary learning spaces that support innovation and hands-on learning. Completed after a year of construction, on time and on budget, the building was designed with flexibility and the future in mind.

Key features of the Polding Centre include:

  • 16 modern classrooms and specialist studios

  • 2 industry-grade workshops

  • 1 professional-grade darkroom

  • A fourth floor added during planning incorporating three general classrooms and a multi-use outdoor terrace for meetings and community events

Honouring Our Heritage

Named after John Bede Polding, Australia’s first Archbishop and founder of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan, the Centre is a lasting tribute to our Good Samaritan heritage and the College’s enduring values of faith, community, and excellence.

Inspiring the Future

The Polding Centre is more than a building — it is a place where creativity is nurtured, talents are developed, and students are empowered to pursue their passions in an environment designed to inspire.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who supported this important milestone. The Polding Centre will serve generations of Stella students, enriching their learning and strengthening the creative heart of our College.
