Welcome to Week 3, Term 4.
Sharyn Quirk
Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we settle into Term 4, there is a renewed sense of energy and focus across the College. This term always brings a mix of excitement for what lies ahead and reflection on the growth, learning, and friendships that have flourished throughout the year.
In the spirit of our Benedictine tradition, we are reminded to “pray as though everything depended on God; work as though everything depended on you” (adapted from St Benedict, Rule 48). This phrase encourages our students to balance faith and effort — to approach each task with diligence, perseverance, and a spirit of gratitude.
At Stella Maris, students in Years 7–10 are now fully engaged in assessments, drawing together the knowledge and skills they have developed over the year. It is a time to focus, to persevere, and to give their best, while also recognising the growth that has brought them to this point. Beyond the classroom, students continue to contribute generously to the life of the College — whether through sport, creative pursuits, or service to others. We are deeply grateful for the incredible energy, talent, and generosity they bring, which enriches our community every day.
Our Year 12 students continue to undertake their HSC examinations, and we hold them warmly in our prayers. Their courage, focus, and determination have been remarkable, and the entire Stella Maris community is incredibly proud of all they have achieved. We ask God’s blessing upon them as they complete this important chapter. To our girls: keep going, stay strong, and trust in the effort you have put in — your resilience and dedication will see you through, and we celebrate every step of your journey toward the next stage of your lives.
Over the weekend of 18–19 October, two talented Year 8 teams proudly represented Stella Maris College at the Future Problem Solvers National Finals — an elite competition that brings together the top 10% of teams from across Australia.
We are thrilled to announce that one of our teams achieved an extraordinary result, placing 2nd in Australia in the Middle Division Global Issues Problem Solving category! This outstanding achievement has earned them an invitation to the International Finals in the USA next June. Their innovative analysis of future challenges in Nanotechnology demonstrated remarkable creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking.
Our National Silver Medallists are:
Our second Year 8 team — Mabel B, Maya H, Ella C, and Lucy M — also performed brilliantly, earning their place among the nation’s best. We congratulate both teams on their dedication, intellect, and commitment to solving the problems of tomorrow.
What a proud moment for Stella!
Yesterday I had the great pleasure of visiting our oldest known alumni, Margaret Duffy, to celebrate her 99th birthday. Joining me was our College Captain, Ava J, who presented Margaret with a birthday cake, flowers, and a special gift on behalf of the College. Many students will remember Margaret from the opening of the Polding Centre, where she joined the Bishop on stage to unveil the plaque — a moment that beautifully reflected her enduring connection to Stella. Margaret was deeply touched to receive birthday wishes from students and staff via a video, which she watched with great joy and appreciation. It was a heartwarming visit, filled with laughter, gratitude, and shared memories. Margaret is a treasured member of our community, and we are so fortunate to celebrate her remarkable life and lifelong bond with the College.
In 2026, Mary Immaculate Church, Manly—affectionately known as the “Church of the Beaches”—will celebrate 150 years of continuous service to the Northern Beaches community. A spiritual home for generations and for the Stella Maris College community, the Church has marked countless milestones and gatherings over the years.
To ensure it continues to serve future generations, a major restoration is underway, including painting, new carpets, weatherproofing, modern sound and AV systems, and essential roof and security upgrades. The goal is to raise $750,000.
“150 for 150” Legacy Gift: 150 families are invited to contribute $1,000 each. Donors will be acknowledged on a Wall of Thanksgiving.
Ways to participate and make your mark: donate any amount, join the “150 for 150” campaign, sponsor a project, attend anniversary events, volunteer your time or skills, or lift the parish in prayer.
There are two options should you wish to donate: Scan the QR code or use direct deposit::

This is more than a restoration—it is a celebration of faith, gratitude, and community. Together, Stella Maris College and Mary Immaculate Church stand in hope and generosity as we build for the future.
As Term 4 continues, may we celebrate the achievements, growth, and generosity of our students, and give thanks for the vibrant spirit of our College community. We are truly grateful for the partnership of our parents and carers, which nurtures young people who are compassionate, confident, and ready to make a difference in the world. Let us embrace this term with joy, hope, and gratitude for all the blessings it brings.
Warm regards,

Congratulations to Vegas B, Mila C, Georgia H and Piper K who competed at the IGSA Gymnastics Championships at the Sydney Gymnastics and Aquatic Centre on Thursday 23 October. The Stella team performed amazingly, with outstanding results on all apparatus. Piper competed in level 6, Mila and Georgia in level 7 and Vegas in level 8.
A special congratulations to Vegas, who had a very successful day. Vegas ended the competition with a podium finish in three of the four events:
Well done on this amazing achievement!
Well done to the Stella junior and intermediate volleyball teams who competed at the CGSSSA Volleyball Championships on Tuesday 21 October. The Stella teams went into the day with limited competitive volleyball experience, but they brought more enthusiasm and energy than every other team! Both teams played well all day, and improved tremendously as the day progressed. Our junior team finished 3rd in their pool, and went on to finish 6th overall! The intermediate team had a tough pool but did very well to finish 7th overall. Congratulations to both teams on a great day of volleyball.
Well done to the Stella Year 8 and 9 Soccer team who played in the Grand Final of the Peninsula Cup Soccer Competition last week. After a very interrupted season, due to lots of wet weather, the grand final finally went ahead against Mater Maria. It was a close game from start to finish, with the Stella team finishing with the silver medal after a 3 – 2 loss. Well done to the Stella Red team on a fantastic season!

Congratulations to Kayla R who recently competed in the 2025 Interschools Horse Extravaganza in Tamworth. This was Kayla’s first interschool equestrian competition and she had a busy few days competing in lots of events. Kayla finished with great results across the board and learnt a lot along the way! Well done Kayla on representing Stella so well against students from all over NSW!
Congratulations to Kate S (Year 11) who has had a very busy few months competing in a number of state and national mountain bike events. Kate has participated in the majority of the NSW/ACT State Enduro (EDR) and Downhill (DHI) MTB series in the U19 female category, and finished the series ranked number 1! Kate also competed in the Sea Otter Australia Schools Champs and finished with the silver medal 🥈! Well done Kate on these outstanding achievements!

This week we will be sending out expression of interest to students for team sports for Term 1 2026. At this stage, only registrations for team sports with weekly competition will be sent to students. This is because team registrations are due before the end of 2025 for many sports.
