Welcome to our final Stella News for 2025.

Dear Parents and Carers,
As we enter the final week of Term 4 and begin to look toward the Christmas season, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to every family in our Stella Maris community. It has been a year filled with learning, growth, connection, and remarkable achievement, and I am deeply grateful for the partnership we share with you in nurturing the development and wellbeing of our young women.
This past fortnight has been a particular highlight, with our Sunset Series celebrations offering a truly spectacular display of performing arts talent. From music to drama to dance, our students’ artistry has been nothing short of inspiring — a testament not only to their gifts but also to the dedication, expertise, and passion of our performing arts staff who nurture these talents so beautifully. We brought these celebrations to a joyful close with our Fig Day Out on Wednesday evening, an event that captured the vibrancy, energy, and spirit of our Stella community. These occasions remind us of the power of creativity and the joy that comes when students are encouraged to shine.
This Sunday, 30 November, marks the beginning of Advent — a season of anticipation, hope, and meaningful preparation. Advent invites us to pause amid the busyness and reflect on the light we await: the joy of Christ’s birth and the promise of peace it brings. These weeks remind us of the simple yet profound gifts of faith, community, and gratitude.
As we look back on the year, we do so with immense pride. Our students have flourished academically, artistically, culturally, and across a wide range of sporting pursuits. Their creativity has lit up our stages and classrooms; their determination has driven their studies; and their spirit has carried them onto courts, fields, and into competitions with courage and grace. Just as inspiring has been their commitment to service and outreach — from supporting our Good Samaritan ministries and local parish initiatives, to participating in social justice campaigns, fundraising efforts, environmental projects, and practical acts of compassion for those in need. Each achievement — large or small, academic or altruistic — is a testament to their dedication and to the steadfast support of families and staff who walk alongside them.
To our families, thank you for your trust, your encouragement, and your involvement throughout the year. Whether supporting learning from home, attending events, or contributing quietly behind the scenes, your presence strengthens the fabric of our community and enriches the experience of every student.
As we prepare to close the school year next week, I wish each of you a Christmas filled with the peace and love of Christ. May Advent help us slow our pace, open our hearts, and prepare for the joy of Christ’s coming. May this Christmas bring moments of connection, gratitude, and renewal, and may the year ahead be rich in promise, growth, and grace for our whole Stella community.
With gratitude and every blessing,

Mission prefects, Bronte S and Eleni H have taken on a composting initiative that they hope will inspire a generation of Stella students. Our school maintenance leader, Arthur, built two enclosed outdoor compost containers that the prefects are using to break down materials that would normally be thrown into rubbish bins.
“We are starting small using the maintenance team's green waste, and Canteen food scraps. Once we get into the full swing of composting, we hope to get every Stella student separating their food waste and using the right materials to add to the worms,” Eleni said.
Both Bronte and Eleni introduced the worms to their new Stella home and are hopeful they will love their surrounds and hungrily consume Stella’s food and garden waste.
Bronte added, “we are hoping to create a compost club next year with students that are keen to get involved in this project. We will be asking all year levels to get involved in this if they are keen."
Both Eleni and Bronte are happy the Northern Beaches Council are trialling food composting bins and will be researching how best to recycle waste at their school. Well done Bronte and Eleni, alongside the other student leaders, for introducing this great initiative.
Visual Arts News

This Monday our Year 9 Visual Arts class was very fortunate to have a full morning of acrylic painting here in our new art rooms. Meredith Rasdall, who is a Northern Beaches Artist and Educator, guided our students through the processes of landscape painting using images of the Northern Beaches to provide inspiration for the students' paintings.
Meredith guided our students through a range of techniques, including exploring colour mixing on different backgrounds, experimenting with credit card painting as a palette knife, chalking over blackboard surfaces, and painting around shapes to create striking black outlines in their landscapes. The paintings created by our students were outstanding.
It was such a great opportunity to create and spend some extended time experimenting and creating. Our lovely Year 9 students were fully engaged in the process and were both encouraging and complimentary toward their peers. Meredith was very impressed with the girls' talents, their concentration and even with their clean up!
That's a wrap on our Sunset Series!

As we wrap up the year, it’s impossible not to be moved by the extraordinary generosity of the Stella community during the Vinnies Christmas Hamper Appeal. What began as a request for support quickly grew into something remarkable: a room transformed into a stuffed Aladdin’s Cave of kindness, filled to the brim with essential items, treats, and thoughtful gifts.
Thanks to the overwhelming response from students, families, and staff, we were able to prepare 10 additional boxes for refugee families in our local community. These people face a double disadvantage due to their citizenship status and are unable to access even the most basic services, including concession transport. These hampers will offer not only practical support, but a message of dignity, solidarity, and hope at a time when it is most deeply needed.
Thank you, Stella, for once again showing what compassion in action truly looks like.
A big shout out of thanks to Ms Abbott and Mrs Hausmanns and their junior Religion classes for doing the collating and packing of the hampers throughout the week.
